Job Description:

Position Summary:  The Supervisor, Food Safety and Quality is responsible for direct supervision of the FS&Q Technicians and the Quality laboratory at the manufacturing site.  They are responsible for daily execution of relevant quality processes and procedures. They maintain direct contact with Production, Maintenance, and Warehouse personnel to identify, resolve, and prevent FS&Q events.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the Q.A. Technicians.  Coordinate scheduling, payroll, assignment of work, training, development, as well as coaching and discipline as required.
  • Responsible for ensuring all laboratory work is defined and executed to meet employee safety, food safety, quality, GMP, and regulatory standards.
  • Responsible for reviewing, developing and implementing Plant Specific Laboratory Procedures and supporting Quality SOPs. 
  • Responsible for ordering lab supplies and processing invoices through PO system and SAP.
  • Conduct daily record review as prescribed in facility’s Food Safety and Quality programs.
  • Manage held product and ingredient sampling, review, and work with FS&Q Manager on disposition decisions.
  • Troubleshoots problems and implements corrective actions through root cause analysis.
  • Supports the FS&Q Manager in leading the plant’s efforts to maintain GFSI certification.
  • Assist FS&Q Manager with Regulatory inspections, Identity Preserved Certification Audits, and Customer visits as needed. 
  • Supports the FS&Q Manager with respect to the facility’s Food Safety Plan, Food Defense Plan, Food Quality Plan and related prerequisite programs including, but not limited to: formula control, mock trace and recall, consumer complaint management, GMPs, sanitation, pest control, allergen control, environmental pathogen control, sanitation effectiveness, calibration, document control, kosher, SPC, corrective and preventative actions, and verification and validation programs.
  • Represents the Food Safety & Quality department for continuous improvement initiatives. Supports compliance within the TreeHouse Management Operating System to help drive a culture of FS&Q and Continuous Improvement. 
  • Assist with Consumer Complaint investigations and responses.
  • Support RDI plant trials and/or projects that qualify new ingredients, suppliers, formulas or processes.
  • Maintain and update the plant product specification database as needed. 
  • Act as a back-up to the FS&Q Manager in their absence.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Relevant experience with government regulatory requirements, FDA, and CFIA in food processing.
  • Familiarity in using continuous improvement tools and fundamentals. 
  • Must possess sound problem solving skills, be analytical, and creative to investigate problems in order to recommend and implement solutions.
  • Efficient computer skills; strong knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, Powerpoint, SharePoint, and familiarity with programs such as SAP, Infinity-QS and Tracegains an asset.
