SUMMARY: Position exists to run a packaging line system by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Guide line workers in work to be performed on the packaging line assigned. Show employees how to pick up materials from pallet, hand truck, etc. and place items onto conveyor.
  • Check pallets & codes
  • Weigh containers, adjust quantity, and perform weight checks
  • Start, stop and regulate speed of conveyor
  • Set up line equipment
  • Label containers, container tags or products
  • Pick up material from pallet, hand truck, and place items onto conveyor or chutes to dump bulk materials onto conveyor or transfer materials from one conveyor to another conveyor, and align material on conveyor.  Clean packaging containers and equipment
  •   Inspect material, products and containers at each step of packaging process
  • Record production, review records and specifications, complete all necessary paperwork.
  • Responsible to keep equipment running
  • Responsible to follow production schedule and notify BPO/supervisor if unable.
  • Maintain area in accordance with AIB, BRC and Haccp Standards
  • Follow safety policies and standard work procedures
  • May perform lineworker, dumper, stacker, sanitation, or material handler positions
  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Operator roles may be: 12 qt cup lines, Stix filler & cartoner, Big Stix/12 Qt Filler Operator, bay 40 and downtown bartelts.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job may require supervision of 1-7 employees.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read in English and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively communicate with employees.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers, including decimals and fractions.  Simple use of formulas, charts, tables, drawings, specifications, schedules, wiring diagrams, computer scanning devices, adjustable measuring instruments.  Check reports, forms, records and comparable data, where interpretation requires basic skills knowledge. 

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.  Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

SUMMARY: Provides direction and support to hourly team members in the areas of safety, productivity, quality, cost, equipment, and engagement.  The position is the first link in the help chain to resolve problems within the work area.  Foster and promote continuous improvement and a positive work environment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Safety

  • Interpret safety policies/practices to employees including ensuring safe work practices are followed.

Production

  • Ensure product quality by understanding and communicating customer requirements to team members.  Ensure correct product is being used and enough materials to complete the order.
  • Take ownership of the Bay – Bay Lead should be the last one out of the Bay.  Bay Lead communicates issues/concerns with next shift.  Bay to be set up for the next shift (at least 4 hours).
  • Help troubleshoot and assist employees in diagnosing malfunctions in work and machine activities.
  • Help maintain accurate production records and complete all reports as required by the Company.  Bay Leads need to fill out Bay Check, Pre-Op and Post Op forms.  Make sure Traceability Sheets/Labels are correct.
  • Help monitor team work levels and report issues to supervisor.  Efficiency – hit daily/shift goals and offer ways to improve processes.
  • Ensure Standard Work is followed.
  • Ensure all employees follow GMP rules and wear all required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
  • Keep sanitation books up to date following the sanitation schedule.
  • Ensure employees punch into the correct task.

Training

  • Train employees in standard work practices and procedures for safety, quality, productivity, and efficiency. 
  • Train team members in the areas of safety quality, productivity, cost, and equipment.
  • Complete all CBT Training as well as any other recommended training to develop personal leadership and technical skills.

Employee Relations

  • Communicate effectively/appropriately with team members and supervisors – be respectful and professional.
  • Be an example for the Bay, do not get involved in issues (be the solution).
  • Work with the Help Chain (coach employees to do so as well).
  • Inform Tech Lead and/or BPO (verbal or written) any employee issues that arise in the Bay.

Other Responsibilities

  • Maintain area in accordance with BRC & AIB standards and help ensure product safety and sanitation regulations are followed.
  • Support in 5S, continuous improvement events, projects and “just do its”.
  • Participate and coach others to participate in Near Miss and OFI programs.
  • On occasion, perform activities of team members
  • Other duties as may be assigned.
