Definition: A QA Technician Level 3 must exhibit leadership skill and technician must be proficient in one or more areas of Levels 1 and 2 which includes Sensory Lab, 30 Lab, and Blending Lab Bench Top. This individual must be able to work with departments outside of QA and production which may include outside customers and vendors as well as corporate employees. They also must be able to attend and facilitate meetings as needed. They may also be responsible for providing group training sessions throughout the company or the position may require a Level 3 tech to receive outside training. A Level 3 Technician will be one of four possible positions listed below.
Hourly Shift Leader 2nd or 3rd shift
A QA Technician Level 3 Leader must be accountable and oversee lab operations throughout their entire shift. They must be proficient as a 30 Lab Finished Product Bench Top Tech and a QA Production Auditor.
Hold Coordinator Technician
A Level 3 Hold Coordinator Tech must have knowledge of each area of lab analysis in the Quality Department. A Level 3 Tech must have general knowledge of the Incoming Bench Top Tech and Blending Lab Bench Top Tech. positions.
Senior QA Project Technician
A Level 3 Projects Technician must have at least one year of experience working as a QA Projects Technician Level 2.
Senior Sensory Technician
A Level 3 Senior Sensory Technician must have at least one year of experience working as a QA Sensory Technician Level 2.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. All of the Tech 3 positions include the following duties and responsibilities:
 Test and qualify ingredients, premixes, blends and finished products such as:
o testing samples, familiarize self with taste/color, use salt meter for salt analysis, test for pH, viscosity, density, moisture, absorption, fruit count, peroxidase, cloudiness, penetration, granulation, leakage, dissolvability, Bostwick. enrichment, perform HACCP tests, perform metal detector, magnet, screen and overs checks, check graphics, labels, cartons, cases, UPC matches again production sheet, check seals, correct drop weights, check codes for proper characters, check codes against production sheet , check for scorched particles , perform scale weigh check, equipment calibrations and drop tests. Perform Chemical storage audits, and file COA
 Perform microbiological testing and interpretation

 Update and Document results
 Use and be familiar with weight charts, QA record sheets, product specification, coding manuals, audit sheets, SSOP and wash reports, pre-operation check off log, packaging material usage, HACCP, glass audits and recycle procedure
 Inspect bay and area washes and release for use
o Follow through on wash inspections to include organic and allergen
o Perform product change over checks
 Maintain retention samples for future reference when needed
o Collect proper amount of customer samples (may vary per customer) and ensure samples are correct or perfect. Record samples per customer guidelines and ship as necessary.
 Maintain or Resolve temperature and humidity controls/issues
 Maintain controls
 Work with product holds
The following are specific duties to Tech 3 positions
 Additional Essential Duties of Level 3 Hourly Shift Leader
o Serve as the department lead all areas of QA and most responsible member of QA for their scheduled shift.
o Contact appropriate Supervisor or QA Manager as necessary to address food safety issues or questions.
o Assign lab personnel appropriately to efficiently complete shift tasks.
o Perform Lab 30 quality testing where required.
 Additional Essential Duties of Level 3 Hold Coordinator
o Route holds, disposition holds, tag pallets accordingly, close holds, file paperwork, coordinate weekly hold meetings and reports
o Work with Pest control of incoming loads, complete appropriate paperwork, schedule building fog, work with disposition of loads, reject or fumigate. Also deal with purchase requisitions and invoices. Coordinate animal feed program, work with retention pallets, and trash procedures. Coordinate mock recalls and work with Manhattan system and AS400.
 Additional Essential Duties of Senior QA Projects Technician
o Lead new projects
o Perform detailed investigations into customer complaints and prepare report of investigation to QA Manager and QA Director
o Prepare customer complaints as needed
o Collect retention samples and assist sensory on their evaluation
o Record and submit data through internal communication software
o Process sample requests
o Manage KPI customer requests
o Provide support as a key member of new product and line start ups
o Direct personnel on new projects and line start-ups
o Schedule meetings
o Perform data analysis and prepare reports for presentation to team
o Participate in root cause events
o Engage department leaders to help solve production issues
o Quality audits to maintain BRC certification
o Coordinate HACCP certification programs
o Work with documentation control requirements for all customers

o Assist in traceability exercises
o Document control coordination
 Filing, obsolete documents, document number, updating QA manuals
 Writing/updating SOP’s, standard work, tracking spreadsheet updating
 Additional Essential Duties of Senior Sensory Technician
o Monitor new product start ups
o Attend product trial meetings and complete assigned tasks
o Assist in hold investigations
o Perform review of daily production
o Prepare and Sensory screen employees
o Coordinate and perform sensory panels and cuttings for R&D
o Perform national brand comparisons
o Manage Quality Assurance product control library
o Work with agglomerators to evaluate agglomerated blends
o Assists with supplier qualification process
o Communicate with ingredient suppliers to obtain supporting ingredient documentation
o Interact with Procurement, R&D, Receiving, and Corporate Quality on supplier information
o Enter and maintain supplier data in TraceGains system for Corporate Quality
o Support Shift Leader and Sensory Supervisor as needed
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Two year Associate’s Degree in Laboratory Science or associated program or equal experience of at least 24 months in the Quality Assurance Department, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively communicate with employees.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers, including decimals and fractions. Simple use of formulas, charts, tables, drawings, specifications, schedules, wiring diagrams, computer scanning devices, adjustable measuring instruments. Check reports, forms, records and comparable data, where interpretation requires basic skills knowledge.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
