SUMMARY

The Baker is responsible for proper baking of pita chips, based on specifications.  The Baker partners with the Mixer to monitor dough going into the extruder, assures that the dough is stretched, dusted, sized, cut, raised, baked/toasted and sent to the next phase of production.  This important role greatly influences the quality of the products.  All procedures and practices used are grounded in standards, regulations and laws addressing food safety and food quality, as well as environmental safety in accordance with Safe Quality Food (SQF) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.

Maintains an understanding of the production schedule for each shift and how it influences the work to be done Understands both the equipment being used as well as the basics of the dough being mixed. Understands the baking process in great detail and can adjust the machines appropriately to assure an excellent process and results. Identifies problems with the dough through a knowledge of the formulas/recipes, the correct ingredients to be used, including water, and understands how water, temperature and humidity affects the dough and uses that information to communicate promptly with the mixer to improve the dough formula for baking Routinely monitors equipment for safety and effectiveness including:  extruder, nozzles, dusters, scales, belts, ovens, conveyors, cutting belts and blades Routinely monitors baked products for texture, consistency, rising, color and baking/toasting effectiveness and intervenes to assure quality process and results Assists with generating paper work through SAP (computer software), printing Handling Units (HU), and scanning and validating. Communicates with associates routinely to assure that all are aware of the work to be completed, priorities for the day and any impending issues Performs all plant cleaning and sanitation activities on all equipment and in all departments following both safety and quality procedures, policies, and rules and in accordance with the standards, regulations and laws governing food safety, food quality and environmental safety regulations and monitors and accurately documents all work completed Assists production with packaging, palletizing, and other duties, as needed Supports and assures the implementation and monitoring of food safety and food quality standards, regulations, laws and good manufacturing practices and notifies leaders if there are any concerns or opportunities for improvement Keeps work environment clean, safe and positive and supports continuous improvement Primary focus of all business related efforts are and must remain that of promoting excellence in all products Present a good and positive business image in every aspect of your professional daily business Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Requires education generally equivalent to a high school diploma
  • Requires a minimum of two years of progressive work experience in food production, preferably two years of TreeHouse food production experience
  • Requires a working knowledge of food safety and food quality standards and regulations such as SQF and environmental safety regulations along with a commitment to continuous improvement
  • Requires basic mathematical skills to be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide combined with the ability to read and interpret formulas and recipes, and calculate proportions, rations and ingredient amounts
  • Requires strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft programs such as:  Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Team player, positive attitude, works well with others, and communicates effectively with all associates.
  • Requires effective and clear written and oral communication skills fluent in English to clearly communicate with other team members
  • Requires teamwork ability with a positive attitude
  • SAP experience preferred

Work Environment:

The employee works indoors in a production environment.  Additionally, the incumbent will work near moving mechanical parts, and in high places.  He/she will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles.  There is moderate noise in the work environment.
