Position Title: Human Resources Assistant

Location: Manawa, WI

Reports To (title): Sr Human Resource Manager

Department: Human Resources

Exempt/Nonexempt Status: Salaried Non Exempt                              

Effective Date: 2/6/19 

SUMMARY: Coordinates, administers and assists with Human Resource activities for the hourly workforce – time-keeping, personnel filing, training and development, and employment at Sturm Foods.  Responsible for maintaining positive employee relations. 


Employee Relations

  • Maintains visibility and accessibility to all employees.
  • Ensures high level of integrity is maintained and that personnel matters are handled in a professional, confidential and discreet manner.
  • Greets and assists internal and external customers in person and on the phone, in front office fifty percent of the time.

Program Administration

  • Uses timekeeping systems to answer questions for employees and managers. 
  • Assists in managing company leave programs such as Short Term Disability, FMLA, Military, and Personal Leaves of Absences. 
  • Tracks stay interviews, 45/90 day reviews, disciplinary actions, terminations, recognition and exit interview programs/processes
  • Uniform program point of contact
  • Employee anniversary program facilitator
  • Supports Soc & Rec committee

Process Administration

  • P/O process owner
  • Enter employee charges such as company store purchases, boot purchases, safety glass purchases, etc.
  • Runs Hourly and Temp Hourly attendance
  • Serves as a back up to onboarding process
  • Responsible for set up of new hire orientation
  • Maintains HRIS system Workday for employee benefit changes, employee corrections, one-time payments, password resets and 12-month rate increases
  • Maintains employee boot lockers
  • Processes unemployment claims
  • Prints keyscan badges
  • Completes termination process

Human Resources Support Activities

  • Timely filing of all hourly, salaried nonexempt and salaried exempt personnel files.
  • Creates and mails mass mailing notices to all employees and other notices as requested.
  • Maintains HR supply closet and reorders as needed
  • Distributes and sends HR mail
  • Completes employment verifications
  • Delivers administrative assistance to the HR team as needed

Job Qualifications


  • Thorough knowledge of human resource process.
  • Ability to interpret and administer company policies including the Employee Handbook and summary plan descriptions.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Solid to Advanced level computer skills including experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Access and HRIS programs.


  • Associate degree in Human Resources or business related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1-3 years in a human resources related profession such as a Human Resources clerk or assistant.

  • Dependability—the individual is consistently at work and on time, follows instructions, responds to management direction and solicits feedback to improve performance.
  • Safety and security—the individual actively promotes and personally observes safety and security procedures, and uses equipment and materials properly.
