Job Description:

  • Establish effective inventory control program, including setting minimum and economic order quantities, recommending improved storeroom layouts and procedures.
  • Purchase necessary MRO materials ensuring availability of parts and supplies for plant operations.
  • Expedite incoming materials shipments as necessary and communicate closely with individuals awaiting receipts to prevent interference to plant operations.
  • Coordinate prompt handling of receiving documents and invoices to ensure approval and payment to maximize buying discounts.
  • Update central and satellite storerooms on a continuous basis by re-shelving, rearranging and consolidating stock.  Appropriately disposition obsolete items (sell, silent auction, trash, recycle) and review minimum and economic order quantity levels routinely.
  • Develop and maintain standards of materials purchased to ensure high quality specifications are met.  Utilize preferred vendors where possible, when not possible seek out new vendors who can service the company.
  • Process all receiving reports, returned goods, purchase orders in a timely fashion to prevent disruption to plant and accounting operations.
  • Locating, sourcing, expediting critical repair parts and recommending satisfactory substitutes for unavailable materials and services.
  • Knowledge and ability to use ERP and/or CMMS systems which may include writing work orders, looking up work orders, finding parts and writing requisitions to order parts. 
  • Work primarily during day time hours but will need to flex hours as needed or directed
  • Provide reports, graphs, and charts as required
  • CMMS oversight of accuracy and use of data; i.e. part inventory, part fields, etc.
  • Restock materials after receipt.  
  • Lead or assist in cycle counting activities. 
  • Lead and Maintain Parts Room 5S and inventory optimization.
  • Reviewing part usage history for:  min/max, slow movers, inventory turns. 

Primary Parts Room Roles & Responsibilities

  • Manage the parts rooms in a professional manner consistent with THS policies and procedures through, but not limited to, the following:
    • Managing parts inventory overall quantity (Total Inventory Value) and availability (stock-outs) to drive down cost while improving inventory accuracy.
    • Working closely with MRO purchasing to ensure proper documentation and policy adherence in procurement of parts.
    • Maintain parts room control levels.
    • Monitor and improve storeroom KPIs such as:  Inventory Turns, Total Inventory, Issues, Receipts.
    • Integrate storeroom corporate measures.
    • Implement new policy procedures to reflect THS, Division, or plant initiatives.
    • Work closely with the maintenance department.
    • Supervise and plan the activities and projects of the stock room personnel.
    • Maintain 5S in parts room areas.
    • Write, review, and revise department SOPs.
    • Insure parts are received in to policy and expectations.

Administrative Duties

  • Complete purchase order paperwork as needed.
  • Knowledge and ability to use SAP to include writing work orders, looking up work orders, finding parts, and receiving parts.  Ensure SAP is kept current for applicable areas of responsibility.    
  • Reconcile Invoices vs POs for any requisitions that this role creates.


  • 2-year degree in relevant technical area and/or 7+ years of relevant experience in purchasing and storeroom leadership in a manufacturing environment.                                                                               

Knowledge / Skills:

  • Strong understanding of maintenance purchasing and storeroom principles. 
  • Demonstrated Leadership Skills
  • Strong written, verbal, communication, and presentation skills
  • Proficient computer skills including:
    • MS Office Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
    • Strong SAP PM & MM
  • Familiarity with Lean methods and processes
  • Strong Organizational Skills
  • Able to handle multiple priorities
  • This position does not have direct reports, but works closely with Electronic Technicians, Maintenance Technicians, Group Leaders, Maintenance Manager, Planner, and provides leadership to other plant personnel using strong interpersonal relationship skills.

Experience Required:    7+ years of relevant experience

  • Related work experience in purchasing, inventory control, and expediting.
  • Strong negotiating, communication, organizational, analytical, problems-solving, leadership and quantitative skills.
  • Strong background in M.R.O. (maintenance repair and operations) purchasing.  Strong understanding of storeroom operations and procedures and ability to interface the two functions to maximize financial opportunities of both.  Requires initiative and friendliness.
  • Working knowledge of production equipment, preventative maintenance concepts, food safety practices, and employee safety requirements.
