Job Description:

Supervise, train and motivate employees and work teams to meet quality standards, production goals, efficiencies and customer satisfaction while maintaining a safe work environment for all employees.

Principle Responsibilities:

  • Support operations through the updating, creation or improvement of standard operating procedures.   Perform Production Supervisor duties on an alternating weekend rotation and covering vacations.  Provide guidance to the warehouse/supply chain team in the Dixon plant.
  • Oversee the production process looking for ways to improve efficiencies, meeting all production quotas and deadlines.  Assign work, analyze productivity, workflow, methods and procedures, making recommendations to management as appropriate.
  • Enforce all company policies and plant rules, to include but not limited to problem solving, development & implementation of standard operating procedures.   Maintains working relationship with the union by following the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Completes production labor schedule by scheduling and assigning personnel; accomplishing work results; establishing priorities; monitoring progress; revising schedules to minimize OT; resolving problems; reporting results of the shift production daily.
  • Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product and safety environment in the workplace.
  • Responsible for recognizing, reporting and troubleshooting food safety and/or quality issues.
  • Responsible for complying with all Food Quality, Food Safety/SQF, and GMP policies and procedures.

Daily/Periodic Tasks:

  • Identify and lead continuous improvement projects aimed at efficiencies, improvement of standard operating procedures (SOPs), elimination of waste, etc.
  • Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety and GMP regulations.   
  • Resolves personnel problems by analyzing data; investigating issues; identifying solutions; recommending action.  Administer discipline, corrective action and coaching as needed.  Assist in the resolution of any employee disputes or grievances. 
  • Guides, coaches and develops subordinates in a worker-friendly team environment that rewards performance with respect and trust.   Communicate written and oral instructions to work team.
  • Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of production/shipping requirements/staffing needs.
  • Inspects products to verify conformance to specifications and directs setup and adjustments of machines as needed.
  • Perform backup production supervisor functions on an alternating weekend rotation and cover vacations. 
  • Confirm production and evaluate downtime (SAP/CDC/DPR).   E-mail/work orders/meetings.

  • Knowledge in Organization Agility – able to complete work through formal channels and informal networks as needed.  Knowledge of origin and reasoning of company behind key policies, practices and procedures is necessary.


  • Prior experience in a food manufacturing environment a plus
  • 3-5 years in a supervisory role a plus
  • High school/GED minimum

Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Proficient use of computer programs and software, including MS Office.
  • Supervisor experience in a union environment.

Basic Skill Set:

  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of management and subordinates using both verbal and written formats.
  • Ability to interact effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Self-motivated and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to establish projects and priorities.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Read written work orders, manuals, measurement instruments and company-posted work and safety policies, procedures and programs.
  • Must have the ability to operate proficiently in an SAP environment; including but not limited to using an RF (radio frequency) device, print and place tags, and able to effectively use a scanner and related portable equipment.
