Quality Technician - Night Shift

Job Description:

The Lancaster Ready-to-Eat Cereal Plant, a TreeHouse Private Brands site, is currently looking for a Quality Technician to join our team.  This is an opportunity to join a recognized and growing company within the food manufacturing industry.  We are offering a competitive compensation package for this position, including benefits (health, vision and dental) and 401(k). The Quality Technician reports to the Quality Team leader and provides support for the production operation of the plant by performing wet chemical and physical analysis.  This is a night shift position 6 pm - 6 am.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Completes both Chemical and Physical analysis on incoming ingredients, in process check points, and finished product quality and attributes
  • Collects samples from various areas of the plant for analysis
  • Performs testing to specifications that include but are not limited to: moisture, specific gravity, color, sieve testing, weights and measurements, using various analytical equipment
  • Prepares standards and solutions used for testing
  • Enters test results into QA database
  • Communicates results to proper areas of the plant
  • Follows proper procedure for placing product on hold
  • Performs and documents calibration checks on analytical equipment
  • Supports SQF Systems by monitoring and performing all quality and food safety checks as required
  • Informs Management of any processes which become non-compliant with specified requirements and ANY Safety, Food Safety, or Quality related issues
  • Responsible for following all plant rules, Safety requirements, and Good
  • Manufacturing Practices

Other Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Technicians rotate between Chemical and Physical testing on a daily basis
  • Provides back up to other technicians
  • Assists with R&D runs
  • Assists with Sensory program
  • Performs tests to assure vitamin levels in premix samples, completes, and sends COA’s
  • Performs tests on held product
  • Gathers, outside testing, product showing, retains, and customer samples, as required
  • Perform product extension responsibilities
  • Performs assigned Sensory Evaluations / Shelf Life Testing
  • Assists with the collection of post-sanitation swabs following hygienic restoration events.
  • Actively participates and provides necessary guidance to the Team Leader group regarding Food Safety and Safety Issues
  • Performs assigned Food Safety and Safety Audits
  • Provides back-up support in the absence of the Quality Team Leader for the QA Lab.

Working Relationship:

  • Must maintain cordial relationships with all departments in the plant as well as with Corporate
  • Will have to utilize authority and give direction to higher management when product quality or food safety decisions need to be made
  • This position reports to the Quality Assurance Team Leader

Physical Demands:

  • Non-smoker (job requires a high level of sensory testing)
  • Cannot be color blind (job requires the ability to detect critical color variations in product)
  • Frequent periods of standing
  • Occasional lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 lbs.
  • Adequate vision and hearing
  • Good knowledge, problem solving, and decision making skills
  • Good Manual Dexterity


  • Work experience in food manufacturing is preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication and math skills required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and Access
