The Production Team Leader is responsible for a variety of duties including but not limited to leading overall continuous improvement of line level metrics and performance across multiple shifts. This position drives overall line performance through the implementation of continuous improvement processes and development of a zero loss culture. This position develops line level tactical plans and builds capability across hourly and salaried teams with regards to continuous improvement. Leads team members to identify, manage, and execute the plants process improvement opportunities. This position manages daily production team to attain production, safety, quality, OEE, and customer service goals. Identifies stops, problems or bottlenecks in production processes, prioritizes, and resolves issues. Ensures production resources including materials, equipment and human resources are available, as needed, to maintain production schedules. This position is responsible for managing and owning various functions of the business and creating an engaged and team oriented work force in order to improve overall business results. Leads and develops a culture of servant leadership within the line leadership team.

Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Acts as a primary resource for line-level production teams to help drive Continuous Improvement and world class results in the areas of Safety, Quality, Cost, Productivity, Service, and Engagement.
  • Tracking daily Stops and understanding all key losses for line performance
  • Achieve mastery at tracking and analyzing loss for the line
  • Ensure proper goals / triggers are set against all losses
  • Track and work against defects found vs. fixed for the line
  • Ensure Training and coaching of hourly direct reports
  • Report on glide path results and plans in appropriate R&R meetings
  • Understand line capability and improvement activities conducted to drive predictability
  • Understand the combination of tools, materials, methods and people engaged on the line
  • Determine critical processes and priority order for established capability
  • Identify improvement opportunities / projects and prioritize
  • Lead and develop Daily operations and support leads
  • Coordinate / coach / lead resources assigned to your projects and responsibility areas
  • Conduct period one-to-ones with Line Leaders and review their scorecard and quarterly development plans
  • Reinforce standard work

  • Must be well organized and ability to prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Coaches a culture of excellent attention to detail to address items before they become major issues (proactive vs reactive)

  • Maintains team’s adherence to employee handbook, GMP’s and other plant policies and procedures.
  • Oversee, Leads and/or actively participates in Focused Improvement Teams to improve Safety, Quality, Service and Cost
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required:

  • Ability to solve problems independently
  • Ability to read production schedules
  • Knowledge of GMP’s, safety standards and food allergens
  • Understanding of losses
  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC)
  • Minimal mechanical knowledge
  • Knowledge of SQF policies and procedures
  • Ability to develop plans and review them periodically for progress
  • Ability to read, write, communicate, and comprehend written instructions in English
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work individually as well as with others as a team at all levels
  • Advanced math skills
  • Advanced knowledge of computers (i.e.: Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
  • Basic interpersonal skills

Qualifications/ Education/Experience

  • 4-year degree in business, food science or related filed.
  • 5 years plus of equivalent experience in a Consumer Foods Product manufacturing facility

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to perform the following:  standing, climbing, pulling, and or pushing, carrying, grasping, reaching, twisting, turning and stooping.
  • Ability to walk and/or stand for extended periods of time. 
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs frequently.
  • Good hand/eye coordination, motor skills, 20/20 corrected vision and hearing within the normal range.

Environmental, Health and Safety Requirements:

  • Must wear all required personal protection equipment associated with specific manufacturing work environment and job duties as stated in the Employee Handbook, posted policies, or as assigned by leadership personnel.
  • Maintain clean and safe working environment and follow all safety policies and procedures, such as lock out/tag out, safe lifting techniques, and all others as instructed.
  • Inform Management of any food safety or quality issues or of any processes which become noncompliant with specified requirements.

Food Safety:

  • Understand, observe, and comply with the handling and usage of the color-coded container policy while in the Production Areas.
  • Perform all duties necessary to meet Company, Customer and/or Government requirements/standards as prioritized by the Company.
  • Ability to initiate action to prevent the occurrence of nonconformities relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the product, processes, quality system, or safety system.
  • Identify and record any problems relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the ingredients, processes, quality system, or safety system.
  • Controls further processing or delivery of nonconforming product in terms of Food Safety and Quality issues until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected.
