Principle duties and responsibilities

  • Direct and supervise personnel assigned.  Assign workers to tasks as scheduled and required.  Follow-up and evaluate each worker's performance.  Correct and instruct individually, as required.  Completely responsible for departments performance and labor utilization as reported daily against standard.
  • Execute the planned production schedule.  Make minor change or adjustments to the planned operation only as required by emergency circumstances or as directed.
  • Conduct regular training and instruction for all assigned employees on production and safety requirements directly related to their individual jobs.  Supervise and assist in the training of employees in new job responsibilities.  Be prepared to certify and employ as qualified for a given job responsibility.
  • Direct and supervise the people on sanitation.  Direct and supervise weekend machinery and structural cleanup.  Part-time supervision of regular weekday sweeping and cleanup.
  • Responsible for making a safe quality product at all times.
  • Monitor all line production for accurate weights and high quality standards of finished product.  Correct or suspend any production which does not meet company specification.
  • Prepare accurate reports of daily production and personnel utilization including time card approval.  Report daily weight checking activity and any quality problems
  • Maintain accurate company records of current inventories of package department supplies and finished goods items produced by the department.  Make regular physical checks of all items to verify accuracy of company records
  • Contribute suggestions and recommendations for a continuing cost reduction program.  Implement cost savings plans under direct control.
  • Interact with Human Resources, Accounting, MIS and Customer Service Departments to insure proper and timely flow of vital information needed for business and personnel needs.
  • Responsible for storage of all package supplies and all finished goods produced by the department.  Maintain date codes on all items and direct the use of oldest items first to assure constant rotation of all stocks.  Make a monthly check of all finished goods stock to verify company inventory records and to identify all items over three months old.
  • Direct all maintenance operations involving planning, scheduling and prioritizing of work assignments to ensure maximum machinery reliability and availability through high work quality standards, meeting all safety, G.M.P. and budget requirements.
  • Make continuous checks on streams to grind highest possible yield is attained.
  • Investigate and analyze faults in order to recommend new methods and equipment improvements to increase machine and production efficiency and reliability.
  • Provides back up for the Production Manager.  Group Leaders provide back up for one another. 

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS (State types of contacts required, both inside and outside the company.  Describe type of supervision given and received.)

            INTERNAL:     Works closely with all production departments and logistics.

            EXTERNAL:   Works with truck lines and railroads.

            Supervises:      30-50 employees based on shift and business need.

QUALIFICATIONS Preferred:

Education:     College Graduate-Business or Administration Field.

Experience:    1-3 years’ experience in the milling/packaging industry.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS TO CONSIDER:

Excellent communication and supervisory skills.  Knowledge of grain and oat milling.  Computer literate.
